Workshops!

Rhythm: Repeat Patterns led by Rachel Ortas

You will be generating patterns using a cut and fold technique and photocopies
to experiment with different images with the frequency of the repeats and scales.
Bring drawing equipment, photocopy card, iconic images of London

This workshop was really useful , because I got really easy way of creation repeating patterns, and just imagine how I feel (remember, I love patterns!! :D) Think that it will be beneficial for my book.
So, during the session I produced pattern, but forget to create more visual connections, but.. I still like it! I used 0.05 pen and then made the image smaller (50%)

You can see the results below.

Examples, most were from OKIDO

Secret technique

Split it

Made a square from the image and repeated it!
Also, was surprised that if you rotate the part of the pattern it will be still fine, because things are coming together perfectly) But, honestly, I didn't think about it before I saw that :)

Have a look closer

That's all for today.
See ya.

Workshops!

Symbolism: Symbolism & Graphic Design led by Paul Bailey

This session will expose and explore the variety of ways in which symbolism
functions within graphic design. What is the purpose of a symbol? How is it
used? How can we use this device effectively within design?

After few examples were shown we made an analys of London experience, like:
  •  weather
  • location
  • sounds
  • objects
  • smells
  • tastes
  • situations
  • encounters
  • people
  • phrases
etc..

Then we were asked to spent around an hour around the university taking pictures and scetching.
As the result I got my idea how this chapter will look like. You will check it later.

few shots from the session also there :

See you later, folks.

Workshops!

Unity/Variety: High Street Mash-up led by Darren Raven

Prior to this session you will be asked to visit 2 contrasting London High Street
(Walworth Rd Vs Marylebone High Street for example), take photos of the shop
signs, people, street furniture etc on each and print them out. You will compare
and contrast the images to decipher the obvious and hidden aesthetics and use
this to create a mash-up hybrid style to apply to all London that will appeal to all.
In this workshop you will create a series of images that play with the expected and
provoke reaction in the viewer.

Ok.
We looked for the photos people printed , made and analyse and then traced few elements from the streets.
Then Janelle made a digital collage.

Workshops!

Orange and Blue. Part 2.

Actually, the idea of the workshop was to brend London with our group color and typeface, but not creating the logo. Our color was blue, I like that is the result of this workshop I got an idea, then it pushed me further and now I'm expecting evening of expirements.)

There are few shots from the session.
Actually the pictures I took wasn't nessecary, but the process of finding colored objects was usefull, I like that)

My trial Illustrator is finished, so , maybe later you will see the result from software part of the workshop.

Workshops!

Preparation for tomorrow.

Colour: Blue or Orange led by Katy Oswald

To do before the workshop:
In preparation for the workshop you have to photograph things in London that
are either Blue or Orange (minimum 20 photos per person). Half of you will
be allocated Blue, half Orange. You should upload your photos to
Blackboard’s Dropbox beforehand so we can access them on the day of the
workshop. Bring them on a USB also.
We will explore colour in general design terms (emotion, visibility, character
etc) and look at the use of colour to brand an aspect of London.

After few hours of walking around the city I understood that now can easily divide colours around me and switching visually between the colors - blue/orange/green/red/etc.. Just need to concentrate for a couple of minutes)
I split results for Orange and Blue + few extra :)
Enjoy!
